British Bombard Copenhagen In Second Battle

British Bombard Copenhagen in Second Battle

16 August - 7 September 1807

Conflict in Napoleonic Wars

The United Kingdom launched a bombardment of the Danish capital, Copenhagen, in a conflict known as the Second Battle of Copenhagen or the Bombardment of Copenhagen. This engagement, which took place from 16 August to 7 September 1807, was part of the Napoleonic Wars.

The British feared that Napoleon's defeat of Russia and Prussia might lead him to control Denmark, which could have given him access to the Baltic Sea and the ability to threaten British trade routes. The bombardment was an attempt to prevent this from happening.
